This course surveys variety in American life, taking a look at the different regions of the country, as well as cultural variables like education, race & ethnicity, and wealth & poverty.  General language learning is through discussion of the content and related vocabulary. A secondary course emphasis is on giving presentations to an American audience.

This course focuses on confidence and fluency in day-to-day English. Activities will focus on developing speaking fluency and expressing ideas, increasing vocabulary, getting familiar with slang and idiomatic speech, and some grammar.

This content-rich, skills-based course helps you engage your American colleagues in conversations that will build constructive relationships and minimize misunderstandings. Each week we will examine different questions about building relationships -

Work Life: What do good work relationships look like? What is universal and what differs by culture?

Social Life: What does American friendship look like? How do Americans approach social interactions? How can I connect well with Americans in social settings?

The Relationship-Building Process: How do we get started? How can I have better friendly conversations with Americans, and how can I have better conflict conversations with Americans? And very practically, how do I gracefully start and exit conversations in English?
